FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why are your prices so low compared to other videographers I've spoken to? I work out of my home, don't do much advertising, and don't have any full time employees. So I have relatively low overhead. Plus I want to do as many weddings as possible right now, because the best way to position myself for lasting success is to generate as much positive word of mouth as possible! What kind of equipment do you use? My main camera is a Sony DVX100. A Sennheiser wireless mic (worn by the groom during the ceremony). A boom mic (for capturing toasts and interviews). And Final Cut Pro for editing. I use lights minimally because I think they disturb guests and my camera and editing system can compensate for low lighting conditions. What experience do you have? I spent 5 years in Los Angeles. For the 1st year I worked on various indepent features, and for a company FilmArt Revolution who ran the Real Estate Television channel. And then for 4 years I worked for the leading trailer editing company, The Ant Farm. Homesickness brought me back to the Quad Cities, and I currently spend my weekdays working as a producer at CBS4 in Rock Island. And I have a bachelors degree in Cinema from the University of Illinois. My daughter, the bride, doesn't like being on camera, but I think it is important to have the wedding taped... What do you think? I wouldn't want to make the bride uncomfortable so we would have to have a meeting and discuss everything beforehand! But she can be reassured that I am only there to record what happens. I won't make anyone pose or do any sort of performance. Some videographers might stage kissing or looking into the camera (and there's nothing wrong with that) but it is just not my style. I like to keep things as honest, genuine, and true as possible. How far ahead do I need to book my date? That is just a matter of luck. Certain dates might be booked a year in advance, especially in the summer. But if I had an open date, you could theoretically call on a Friday and I could be there on Saturday! I've already spent so much money already, how can I justify adding one more cost? Exactly because you've spent so much money! So much money that is gone in one day, don't you want to remember it?! I think in a few years hiring a videographer will be just as important as hiring a photographer. There have been so many advances in video technology and affordability in the last few years, people will see how beautiful and meaingful a professional wedding video can be. Do you work on projects besides weddings? Yes. Call me egostical, but I can do just about anything! Commercials, taping live performances, corporate videos, music videos... |
